Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has given an executive order for the establishment of the Niger State Entertainment Council.
He gave the order when he received Niger State entertainers on a solidarity visit at the government house in Minna.
The Farmer Governor, who highlighted the significant role of the entertainment industry, approved the construction of a state-of-the-art recording studio in Niger State and ensured support for capacity-building training for them.
He also approved N500m as seed for the Niger State Creative Grant Scheme and also the appointment of a coordinator, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) for zones B and C, to ensure inclusivity.
The Farmer Governor changed them to ensure that all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections are elected.
He thanked the entertainers for the visit and promised to sustain his support for them and the growth of the industry in the state.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor of the Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna (AKUM), Prof. Mohammed Kuta Yahaya observed that the state is blessed with talented entertainers.
He, however, noted that the potential of the entertainment industry has not been fully harnessed in the state.
Prof. Kuta Yahaya said entertainers in the state have enjoined great and uncommon support from the present administration.
Also speaking, Alhaji Mohammed Baba Yahaya said the state entertainers have endorsed the Farmer Governor for a second term following his remarkable performance across all sectors of the economy.
He said the Farmer Governor has also shown unprecedented support to the group since he assumed office.
Alhaji Baba Yahaya assured the Farmer Governor of the total support of all entertainers in the state to ensure his victory in the 2027 general elections.
He used the forum to appeal for more inclusion and proposed the establishment of the Niger State Entertainment Council to serve as a statutory executive body and provide a structure for the group.
Alhaji Baba Yahaya said the council will serve as the highest regulatory and development body for the creative sector in the state.
He also proposed the creation of the Niger State Creative Grant Scheme (NSCGS) and appealed to the state government to support the scheme with an initial seed of N500m to N1b.
He noted that the NSCG will provide funding for members to develop their talents and expand the entertainment industry.
He said a regulatory framework should be made to protect investments and ensure professionalism.
