Transfer Centre latest: Ferran Torres, Alexis Sanchez, Jadon Sancho, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

DORTMUND ARE STICKING TO THEIR GUNS ON SANCHO’

“At the moment, all parties are increasingly confident that a deal can be done for Jadon Sancho to become a Manchester United player. Personal terms are close to being agreed in principle, but I don’t think we should read too much into that because United are one of the richest clubs in the world.

“They will have no problem paying what Sancho is asking for, but what is proving a problem is paying what Borussia Dortmund are asking for. Dortmund are well within their rights to ask for as much as possible, and they’re asking for €120m – so about £108m.

“United don’t want to spend that much money on Sancho, especially because they’re the only club in talks to sign him at the moment, so why should they pay over the odds? But Dortmund are sticking to their guns.

“What is happening now are discussions about the structure of the deal. Talk about instalments and down-payments is nothing new, but that is what’s being discussed at the moment. United are trying to be sensible by not spending too much money.

“My colleague Dharmesh Sheth has good contacts around this deal, and he is telling me today that we should ignore the noise – everything is progressing smoothly. Our reporter up in Manchester, James Cooper, is telling us the same thing. There is an expectation that the deal is going to be done.

“If you’re a Manchester United fan, it’s a case of being patient and waiting for it to be announced.”

Man City complete Torres signing

Manchester City have signed winger Ferran Torres from Valencia on a five-year deal.

Talks are progressing on a settlement which is thought will see Alexis Sanchez leave Manchester United on a free transfer to join Inter Milan on a permanent deal.

Sanchez has been on loan at Inter since August 2019 with United still paying a large portion of his £560k-a-week wages.

The Chile international would receive a payout from United for cancelling his contract, which still has two years to run. The details of the payout are unknown but the value of the remaining two years in wages is around £55m.

Sanchez is set to sign a three-year contract with Inter worth £6.3m a year. A deal should be finalised this week and would mean Sanchez is eligible to play for Inter in this season’s Europa League competition.

Should a deal be completed, it would mean United’s iconic No 7 shirt would be vacant. The shirt has been worn by George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham. It is also, incidentally, the same number Jadon Sancho wears for Borussia Dortmund.
