Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek, reportedly passed on

The news was shared by his management via his official Instagram page. In the video, he called on Nigerians to celebrate rather than mourn the reggae icon dubbed The Rainmaker, as his contribution to the Nigerian music industry was great.

The statement reads:

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker. Let celebrate him ,his achievements and his family, what ever decisions made by his immediate family will be notify.”

Recall in 2019, Legit.ng reported that the music veteran was ill and battling for his life at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in England.

His manager Omenka, confirmed the state of his health via a video post shared on the official Instagram page of the singer. Omenka, while dismissing rumors that Majek has died, confirmed that he was flown out of Nigeria due to the seriousness of his condition.

He called on fans and supporters of the 66-year-old star to extend their best wishes and prayers to him (Majek) during this trying period.

Fashek was best known in Nigeria for the 1988 album, Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single, Send Down the Rain.

Also, he has worked with various artists worldwide, including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé.

Fashek’s musical influences include Bob Marley – whom he resembles vocally – Jimi Hendrix, and Fela Kuti.

He was one of the original Nigerian artistes to be drawn to the music of the Caribbean, specifically reggae, rather than indigenous hybrids such as fuji, jùjú, but was known to mix these genres into his own style which he called kpangolo.
