#Endsars Protesters Launch Soro Soke Radio

The #EndSARS Movement, a group of Nigerian youths protesting against brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigeria Police Force, has launched its own radio station, #SoroSoke Radio.

Sorosoke Radio was so named from the m “Soro Soke” a Yoruba phrase which literally translates to “Speak Louder.”

The Nigerian youths have maintained that they are not backing down in the calls for an end to all forms of police brutality in the country.

#ENDSARS protests have continued spread across the country, and in some countries abroad, including United Kingdom and Germany.

The protesters launched the Soro Soke FM Radio online, breaking bounties globally as anyone in the world can listen to the radio loud and clear as long as there is an internet connection.

Launched to amplify the voices of the protesters and facilitate more coordination and communication among the youths, the radio is becoming more popular among the youths as they play inspirational music, including protest songs of the late Afrobeat king, Fela Kuti, among other unique programmes.

The level of coordination by the movement which has no clear leadership has been amazing.

Soro Soke began to trend when a governor came out to address the #ENDSARS protesters but he was talking in a low tone, which angered some youths who shouted at him, saying “Soro Soke! Werey!” It literally means “Speak Louder, Madman!”

That’s how the phrase “Soro Soke” eventually became the battle cry of the ongoing war against all forms of police brutality in Nigeria and now the name of the FM radio station broadcasting 24/7 online.
