Emir cries out as floods hit 4 Kwara LGs, areas are Edu, Patigi, Moro and Ilorin


FOLLOWING few days of continued downpour, perennial flood has ravaged four local government areas of Kwara State.

The affected local government areas are Edu, Patigi, Moro and Ilorin.

The flood, it was gathered, washed away several hectares of farmland and crops in the affected areas, while thousands of people were rendered homeless.

Areas mostly affected by the flood were Lafiagi and Patigi Emirates, Jebba in Moro Local Government Area and some areas in Ilorin, the state capital.null

Emir of Lafiagi in Edu LGA of Kwara State, Alhaji Kawu Haliru, on Tuesday appealed to the government delegation led by the state Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, to come to the aid of his people over what he called yearly occurrence of flooding in Lafiagi communities.

One of the victims at Chewuru village in Lafiagi, who is also head of that community, Saliu Umoru, said they were ready to relocate to n high hill area where they would have peace of mind and turn their indigenous community to farmland.

Umoru, said, “We are appealing to the government and all our representatives within the government to come to our rescue by providing another abode for us.”
